Get to Know Me

Hello there, welcome!

I’m Joy Chen 陈恕芸 (Chen Shuyun), a US-based learning experience designer with an academic background in adult and organizational education (M.S. in HR Development).

I help people discover, advance, and achieve their goals through performance-based learning experiences. I specialize in cross-cultural design adaptations and localization.

.

My learning experience design journey started from prior years working in international education. I designed, implemented, and managed a variety of in-person, virtual, and hybrid learning projects for teen and adult learners across the globe. Through running the international projects, I was always encouraged to seek innovative ways and employ technologies to deliver and enrich the learning experience for the learners.

.

Working cross-culturally with cross-functional teams and diverse stakeholders, I’ve developed strong empathy and inter-cultural competence, laying the foundation of my learner-centered and goal-driven design approach. I believe that learning experiences are like journeys - as each learner perceives differently, the experience varies on how we feel, where we are led, and what we obtain along the way.

I get excited the most whenever the learning experience I deliver engages and inspires the learners to take the initiative in their learning process and ultimately achieve their goals. Those moments motivate me to create impactful learning experiences that help solve problems and produce real behavioral changes.

Fun Facts About Me

Adobe Audition was the first advanced tech tool I used to create one of my most memorable digital experiences - producing a bilingual (ENG/CHN) radio program “News Café,” covering popular topics and other cultures, at my college radio station.

My current life challenges include learning how to make kimchi and teaching my Korean-American husband Mandarin. This experiential learning experience of making authentic kimchi can be much trickier than navigating eLearning authoring tools.

As a dog mom, I often get inspired by the learning experience design approach in training my dog - to connect, guide, encourage, and, most importantly, understand and follow the learners' nature.
